ABOUT PHILIPPINES

The Republic of the Philippines is a sovereign island country in Southeast Asia. It is located in the western Pacific Ocean. About 7,641 islands comprise three geographical divisions – Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The capital city of the Philippines in Manila. It is bounded by the South China Sea on the west, the Philippine Sea on the east and the Celebes Sea on the southwest.

The Philippines shares a maritime border with Taiwan, Palau, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Philippines is located on the Pacific Ring of Fire and is close to the equator. This makes Philippines prone to earthquakes and typhoons. It is one of the founding members of the UN, WTO, ASEAN, Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum, and the East Asia Summit. It also hosts the headquarters of the Asian Development Bank.

The Philippines is an emerging market and an industrialized country. It has transformed its economy from agriculture based on services and manufacturing based. The Philippine economy is the 33rd largest in the world, with an estimated 2016 GDP of $310.312 billion. USA, Japan, China, Singapore, South Korea, Netherlands, Hong Kong, Germany, Taiwan, and Thailand are major trading partners of Philippines.
