Any university that meets these criteria is acceptable. Any university that doesn't, however famous its brochure looks, is a risk.

MBBS abroad means studying the same medical degree, but at a foreign university instead of an Indian one.

What changes is the campus, the cost, and sometimes the language of instruction.

For an Indian student, this degree only means something back home if it clears one condition. It must be recognised by India's National Medical Commission, or NMC.

• You must qualify for NEET-UG. There is no exception for studying abroad.
• Minimum 50% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology in Class 12 (40% for SC/ST/OBC candidates).
• You must be at least 17 years old at the time of admission.
• A valid passport is mandatory before you apply.
• Most universities do not require IELTS or TOEFL, since courses are taught in English. A few do, so confirm this per university.

Pro tip: Some agents advertise MBBS abroad without NEET. You can enrol, but you'll never be allowed to practise in India without a valid NEET score. 

There's another eligibility detail families often miss. Your NEET score alone doesn't guarantee your degree will be valid later.

You also need an Eligibility Certificate from NMC before you leave India, in most cases. Skipping this step creates problems down the line.

Age matters too, but not in the way many students expect. There's no strict upper age limit for MBBS abroad admissions in most countries.

What matters more is consistency. Universities want to see a clean academic record, not just a passing NEET score.

Step 1: Qualify NEET-UG First

Never apply to a foreign university before your NEET result. Admission without NEET qualification is not valid in India, regardless of what any agent tells you.

Step 2: Shortlist NMC-Compliant Countries and Universities

Look for a minimum 54-month course plus a 12-month internship at the same institution, taught fully in English.

Step 3: Verify the University Independently

Secure Admission to a Recognised University

The Foreign Medical Graduates Examination, or FMGE, has long been the screening test for returning students. The NMC has proposed replacing it with a unified National Exit Test, or NExT (Source: NBE FMGE page).

Don't assume NExT will arrive before you graduate; prepare for FMGE as your baseline, and check the NMC's official announcements every few months.
